Found Wood Girl - Tall Sashiko
Being surrounded by old things all my life (born into a family of antique dealers) has definitely left its mark – I have a mixture of old and new pieces in my house, with a particular fondness for old wood – there’s really nothing like it. I began to gather bits and pieces that I thought might be coaxed into living a new and wholly unexpected life – either vintage objects or parts of wooden things long since past their original purpose. I have assembled and painted some ‘found wood’ dolls from these parts or objects – total one-offs and priced accordingly.
This elegant girl was once part of a ninepins set, and she has been given a new life - painted with tiny stitching inspired details in gouache. The original maker left her with some lovely bark on one part of her body, and I have placed stitches over this area as if she has made herself a visible mend patch. She is a vintage piece – please make sure you consult the pictures carefully and that you are happy with the design and condition before purchasing. She has been finished in two coats of matt acrylic topcoat.
Stamped underneath with ‘nakamura’ characters [中村] in red ink.
Approximately 31cm high.
