Found Wood Girls - Large Ninepins
Being surrounded by old things all my life (born into a family of antique dealers) has definitely left its mark – I have a mixture of old and new pieces in my house, with a particular fondness for old wood – there’s really nothing like it. I began to gather bits and pieces that I thought might be coaxed into living a new and wholly unexpected life – either vintage objects or parts of wooden things long since past their original purpose. I have assembled and painted some ‘found wood’ Kokeshi from these parts or objects – total one-offs and priced accordingly.
This beautiful set of French wooden ninepins have been restored from a slightly neglected state - having a thick yellow varnish removed and then painted with stitching inspired details in watercolour, after which they have been rubbed down for a slightly distressed look. The set comes with a large wooden ball (which has a hole running through it, which allows for it to stand still on a surface), also decorated. These are a rustic upcycled set – please make sure you consult the pictures carefully and that you are happy with the design and condition before purchasing. They have been finished in two coats of matt acrylic topcoat.
Stamped underneath with ‘nakamura’ characters [中村] in red ink.
Each skittle is approximately 11" high, the balls is roughly 5" across.
Please note: These should not be left out in the garden or allowed to get wet, unless a much more faded look is desired.
