Found Wood - 'Mrs. Acorn'
Being surrounded by old things all my life (born into a family of antique dealers) has definitely left its mark – I have a mixture of old and new pieces in my house, with a particular fondness for old wood – there’s really nothing like it. I began to gather bits and pieces that I thought might be coaxed into living a new and wholly unexpected life – either vintage objects or parts of wooden things long since past their original purpose. I have assembled and painted some ‘found wood’ Kokeshi from these parts or objects – total one-offs and priced accordingly.
This uniquely shaped creative kokeshi has been painted in gouache and watercolour - her head is made from an elongated acorn shaped piece, hence her name. She needs to be stood on a good flat surface due to her slightly top heavy shape. Constructed from old found wood with minimal intervention - please make sure you consult the pictures carefully and that you are happy with the design and condition before purchasing. She has been finished in two coats of Danish oil for wood and gently polished with a soft cloth. Stamped underneath with ‘nakamura’ characters [中村] in red ink (although hard to see due to the colouring in the wood).
Measures approximately 26cm in height.
Please note: THIS IS NOT A TOY and should be kept out of the reach of children.
