'Old & New' Not Cross Yet Kokeshi
I’m a big fan of giving old (and often discarded) things new life, and creating something out of salvaged materials, particularly wood. So when I found these little blanks with a Japanese vintage dealer, I was moved to give them a new life. They have been washed and painted or stamped with modest designs that I felt was in keeping with their style. I call them ‘old and new’ because they are vintage pieces with a new makeover.
This little vintage wood doll has been painted with little 'pop' symbols that are often used to represent anger in manga - she's not quite cross yet but maybe she's working her way up to it. She has a freely moving head that can be turned in any direction.
She have been finished in two coats of Danish oil for wood and gently polished.
Stamped underneath with ‘nakamura’ characters [中村] in red ink.
Approximately 14cm high.
Please note: THIS IS NOT A TOY and should be kept out of the reach of children.
