'play' vending - books I
I studied architecture at university, and my favourite part was the model making - I loved using the equipment that showed you the light conditions in a space at different times of the day, and the photography that allowed you to shrink in size (if only in the mind) and wander the spaces you had made. I did occasionally use clay for models back then, but also often of white card, with outlined edges. So I think it might have been inevitable that all these years later my love of Japanese vending machines has inspired me to make some model versions in thick slabs of porcelain, that can be interacted with, by setting up moveable pieces. I wanted the finished pieces to look like hand drawn 2D quick sketches come to life - alive and a bit wonky.
I've never come across a book vending machine yet, but I'm sure they exist - this one is part vending machine, part bookshelf. Includes 'the big book of bears'!
Please make sure you consult the pictures carefully and that you are happy with the piece before purchasing. Because of the glazed surfaces, the little moveable pieces require gentle placement - sometimes a tiny piece of sticky tack or a removeable craft glue dot will give that little bit of extra help. You can also use these ceramic machines as tiny display cases for those other tiny treasures that never have a place to be appreciated.
Porcelain, chunky slab built 'play' sculpture, a substantial and heavy piece. Painted decoration in cobalt oxide and finished in a matt blue glaze. Comes with 9 little porcelain 'books'.
Machine size: Approximately 18cm high/ 15cm wide/ 5cm deep.
PLEASE NOTE: Not for young children, as the small pieces could be swallowed.
Due to the weight, a courier service is required for delivery outside the UK.
