Za'atar Girl

£90.00

My wood girls like to give back when they can, either as a group or as individual pieces.

This wood girl is living inside a jar of za'atar herb mix. Although many people now associate the word za'atar with this kind of mix, it is actually the Arabic word for a wild, mint-related herb that is a pillar of Levantine cooking and similar to oregano and marjoram. As the herb itself is hard to find, a za'atar mix is commonly made using dried thyme, oregano, sumac, sesame seeds and salt.

By purchasing this girl, you will be donating to Many Lands Mutual Aid, a vetted grassroots aid distribution project that puts your donations directly into the hands of displaced families in Northern Gaza in the form of: weekly cash aid distribution, drinking water deliveries, community water wells, grocery, produce, fresh meat and prepared meal distribution, transportation and community events.
Hussein and his team typically help between 30 and 60 families weekly. Their living conditions worsen with each passing day and now as well as an almost total food blockade since March 2025 they are having to deal with looting and violent gangs, as always under the 24/7 sounds of drones and the threat of bombs and being fired upon.

It remains important that you read and educate yourself on the history of the region, talk to friends and family about what you learn, boycott Israeli products and companies that collaborate with Israel, look outside of mainstream media for factual news reporting and express open solidarity with the Palestinian people - do not stay silent and keep on resisting. Keep sharing information and fundraisers on social media to increase their impact.

The total purchase price of this piece (less payment processing fees by Stripe/ Paypal) will be donated to the charity, and you get to keep a specially made wood girl to remind you that resistance is existence. UK shipping is free. Shipping elsewhere is £15 flat rate.

The total height is approximately 15cm.

My pieces are painted in a naïve and simple style, with visible brush strokes and differing paint consistencies. It is important to note that these dolls are made from real wood which will have naturally occurring markings and grain, and sometimes there will be small amount of bleeding along the grain, which is to be expected when using untreated wood - please make sure you consult the pictures carefully before purchasing. Finished in a top coat of matt acrylic.

Stamped underneath with 'blue bear' in red ink.
Please note: THIS IS NOT A TOY and should be kept out of the reach of children.
