'Parked Bicycle, Asakusa' Original Monoprint
Parked bicycles will always feature in my work - propped up, parked, missing wheels or abandoned, they are a much more frequent sight on Japanese streets than in most parts of the UK. I find them a strangely comforting sight, and often wonder about their journey to and from the place they have temporarily come to rest.
Monoprints are always unique in that the plate can only be used for one print before it must be cleaned and reinked, and they retain the beautiful mark making sometimes lost with other printing methods. They are spontaneous and retain the life of a sketch. This has been hand drawn through from the reverse onto the plate (so there will be drawn marks and indentation on the reverse of the print). A hand carved stamped element has then been added using natural oil-based Japanese pigment inks, along with some watercolour. No two are the same due to the printing and multiple methods used, and are therefore listed individually so that a choice can be made from those currently available.
Printed on 150g oatmeal 100% recycled thin card (with natural flecks).
Paper size: A3 ( 297 x 420 mm or 11.7 x 16.5 inches).
