the summer daydream
A large wood girl automata - gently moving to bring a little animation to the subject matter - made for the year of the horse. Here we have a girl who is looking off into the distance, distracted by a daydream of herself on horseback riding through a buttercup meadow as the clouds whizz by...the wooden mechanism makes a sound reminiscent of horses hooves as the handle is turned and the horse trots up and down - the little rider is on a spring so she bobbles about.
The cloud on a metal wire can be removed for transport - just place it down through the holes in the clouds and insert the bottom of the wire into the hole in the disc (dots side up). See Instagram video (June 12th) for further details of this and of the girl in action.
Constructed almost entirely from wood, hold the base in place and turn the handle to see the horse and cloud spring into action. There is a nice suitably clunky action to the movement as the wooden mechanism works to turn all of the elements.
SAFETY INFORMATION: NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 9.
IMPORTANT: Should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from water/ humid environments. As with all automata, even the simplest ones, it is important to know that after a period of time they may dry out, seize up or become unstuck.
